MOON FEVER

This new webitorial for Jute Magazine titled "Moon Fever" that I styled was a true passion project. When Samantha approached me about doing a Japanese street style / Sailor Moon inspired story, I said "YES" instantly even though I was in Paris for work at the time and had no idea what my schedule would be like. Actually it felt like fate because earlier in the day, I had been walking around the Marais and heard a street musician playing the original Sailor Moon theme song on a cello. And it MUST have been fate because when Sam asked Jo if he wanted to work on it as well he allegedly replied "I am Sailor Moon" and texted a selfie wearing a Sailor Moon t-shirt (that t-shirt in fact appears in the story).
So with a dream creative team in place we began casting our Sailor Guardians and I have to say, in their own unique way, each model truly became their character. I really want to thank the models and their agencies because they must have thought we were crazy when we pitched the story and they were all incredibly game.
For all three of us (Jo, myself and Sam), for whatever reason, Sailor Moon had truly made an impact on us as kids. I can't speak for the others but for me it was the combination of girl power and mysticism that was intoxicating. If you're not familiar with the story, Sailor Moon and her friends are awakened by their cat familiars, Luna and Artemis, to realize that they have been reborn and that in their previous life they were princess/priestess/warriors on the moon. United, they transform to fight crime and restore the "Silver Millennium" with power or the "Legendary Silver Crystal".... I could go on.
It's not every day that you get to execute an idea you love with people you love and for that I am truly grateful.
Anyway, it was Jo who said that models really are like magical girls, in the sense that the right haircut for instance could transform a career. Below are a few of my favorite images that appeared in the Jute story. Hopefully I will be able to share more soon. Enjoy!
